About Narratory
We're building tools that make audiobook production accessible to every author, regardless of budget or technical expertise.
Our Mission
Less than 5% of published books have an audiobook edition. For most authors, the cost of professional narration — typically $2,000 to $7,000 per title — makes audio production financially impractical. The result is a market where millions of readers who prefer audio are unable to access the vast majority of published works.
Narratory exists to close that gap. We build purpose-built AI narration tools that let authors produce professional-quality audiobooks at a fraction of the traditional cost, in hours instead of months.
Our platform handles the entire workflow — from manuscript import and chapter parsing to multi-character voice assignment, line-by-line preview, and export of distribution-ready audio files. We believe every book deserves an audio edition, and every author should be able to create one.
Our Technology
Narratory is built around a purpose-built AI narration pipeline rather than a generic text-to-speech API. We made this choice deliberately: general-purpose TTS tools are designed for short-form content like notifications or virtual assistants. Audiobook narration has fundamentally different requirements — consistent voice quality across hours of audio, natural handling of dialogue and attribution, and the kind of pacing and emotional range that keeps listeners engaged.
Our approach focuses on three areas:
- Long-form consistency. Our engine maintains voice quality and character across entire chapters and books, not just individual sentences.
- Character differentiation. Authors can assign distinct voices to different characters, with the system handling dialogue transitions naturally.
- Author control. Every line can be previewed and adjusted before export, giving authors the same iterative control they have over their written text.
We continuously evaluate and improve our voice models, prioritizing natural prosody and listener experience over raw speed or cost reduction.
Our Editorial Approach
The guides and resources on this site are written to help authors make informed decisions about audiobook production and distribution. We aim for accuracy, depth, and practical usefulness.
- We cite our sources. Industry statistics and platform-specific claims are attributed to primary sources wherever possible.
- We acknowledge trade-offs. AI narration is not always the right choice. We're transparent about when human narration delivers a better result.
- We update our content. Platform policies, pricing, and technology evolve quickly. Articles are reviewed and updated regularly, with update dates noted.
- We disclose our perspective. We build an AI audiobook tool, so we have an informed but interested viewpoint on this market. Our guides aim to be useful regardless of which tool you choose.
Who We Are
We're a passionate team based in London, UK, with over 10 years of experience in speech synthesis. That background informs every part of how we build Narratory — from the voice models we select to the editing controls we give authors. We understand the nuances of long-form narration because we've spent years working on the underlying technology.
